At Marfell Community School
Beyond the classroom
There is a special focus on looking after students with challenging needs, and Marfell School provides a range of programmes to accommodate unique situations.
Their special needs and extension programmes cater for individual learning requirements.
Marfell is recognised as one of the top schools in adopting ‘‘Positive Behaviour for Learning’’ initiatives, thereby helping parents, whanau and teachers address problem behaviour, improve children’s well-being, and increase educational achievement. By strengthening relationships and creating more positive home and school environments, the programme removes barriers to engagement and improves students’ chances to achieve at school and beyond.
Extracurricular pursuits are catered for through two playgrounds, pool, bike track and large grounds and a new turfed court. This has been possible due to massive support by local businesses and charities.
As part of the school’s holistic approach, it provides students healthy breakfasts and lunches, including fresh fruit and milk.
There is an active sustainable culture at the school, epitomised by their Enviroschool programme, which imparts vegetable gardening and pest eradication training at all levels.
The good news for parents is Marfell has a successful after school care programme, Rising Achievers, which operates Monday to Friday from 3pm until 4.30pm during the school terms.
Kealy adds that their goal is to produce happy healthy learners who value Manaakitanga, Ako, Ngawari and Awhina.
‘‘We hope for your whanau to join us on our journey,’’ she says.
