1700 Covid-19 vaccine doses given out locally

-

More than 1700 doses of the Covid-19 vaccination have been given to people in Taranaki, Ministry of Heath figures show.

As of Tuesday, 1366 people had received the first dose of the Pfizer vaccine, with 380 having had the second after the recommended interval of 21 days.

Vaccinations are being distributed in groups, beginning with border workers and household contacts of healthcare workers.

‘‘We have almost completed providing access to all of group 1, including border workers and those they live with over the age of 16 years,’’ the Taranaki District Health Board (TDHB) said.

‘‘A dedicated site for vaccination close to Port Taranaki has been the main point of access for border worker vaccinations – this site will close in the middle of April.

‘‘Any border worker or household contacts of border workers can still access vaccination after this time through alternative sites.’’

Group 2 vaccinations will be for high-risk health workers, aged-care residents and people with mental health and/or disabilities.

‘‘We will be providing more clinics for healthcare workers to be vaccinated over the next period, with vaccination sites available in New Plymouth and Ha¯wera,’’ the TDHB said. ‘‘Further information will be provided on how to book once dates, sites and vaccine supply is confirmed.’’

TDHB is exploring vaccination hub options in north and south Taranaki and hopes to have these operating by next month. conditions
