Ko goes to No 1
Lydia Ko has marched to the top of the LPGA’s season points table with another solid effort in California yesterday. Ko fired a final round 2-under 72 to finish in a tie for ninth at six-under for the Mediheal Championship at the testing Lake Merced Golf Club in Daly City, near San Francisco. Finland’s Matilda Castren fired a final round 65 to overhaul Singapore’s Mi Lee for the title, winning by two shots. Caastren was 14-under for the tournament, eight shots better than Ko. But this was Ko’s sixth top 10 finish of the season and her consistency has been rewarded on the Race to the Globe points standings. With previous leader Nelly Korda (US) absent this week, Ko moved from No 2 to No 1 in the race to make the top 60 and qualify for the lucrative end of season tournament.
