Mafia cocaine king faces 30 years’ jail
A Calabrian mafia boss who is believed to be one of the world’s top cocaine traffickers was extradited from Brazil to Italy yesterday after nearly 30 years on the run. Known in his youth as ‘‘the cocaine king of Milan’’, Rocco Morabito was arrested in May 2021 in a hotel room in the northeastern Brazilian city of Joao Pessoa in an operation involving officers from Italy and Brazil as well as the FBI and the US Drug Enforcement Administration. Italian officials expect him to serve a 30-year sentence for drug trafficking in a maximum security prison.
