Eco-activists attack Klimt

-

Climate campaigners have thrown synthetic oil at a case containing a painting by Gustav Klimt in a Vienna art gallery. Activists from the Last Generation, which is based in Germany and Austria, sprayed the liquid over the glass case around Klimt’s Death and Life in a protest against new oil and gas drilling, which they say is a ‘‘death sentence for humanity’’. As other visitors in the Leopold Museum shouted at them, one protester glued his hand to the casing. His companion shouted as he was taken away by a security guard: ‘‘We have to act at last. The planet is dying. Stop this destruction.’’ The protester who sprayed the oil said it was a ‘‘non-toxic fake oil’’.
