PM confirms Black Ferns celebration

- Bridie Witton

Parliament will host a celebration to mark the Black Ferns’ extraordinary Rugby World Cup win on December 13, Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern has announced.

A public event and celebration will take place on Parliament’s lawn, and would be an opportunity to ‘‘meet, mingle and celebrate with our World Cup-winning team’’, she said during a postCabinet briefing yesterday.

The Government will partner with Wellington City Council and NZ Rugby to host the event which will be hosted indoors if it rains.

Ardern also said a bill to encourage competition in the grocery sector would be introduced this week. It puts in place key regulatory changes that have been announced this year to improve competition in the retail grocery sector.

This includes establishing a new grocery commissioner to referee the sector, and setting up a wholesale supply to require supermarkets to provide competitors with fair access to the products, she said.

The bill will be passed mid next year.
