Damage warning

- C Purdon, Hāwera

Some of the damage done in this term of the Labour Government will be repairable

The procession of shambles in education, law enforcement, immigration, transport, health, construction, and employment may be temporary, or at least reversible. But tampering with constitutional issues, particularly with entrenched matters, may result in damage to the accepted democratic process, endless court action, and scars that may never heal properly.

The attempt to entrench the Three Waters issue beyond change by a simple majority is one example of a central power grab. Another is the cogovernance intention. Another is the move to lower the voting age, ‘justified’ by a highly controversial and open-ended court ruling.

Other parts of the world have to live with divided societies. We do not.
