carry about as you don’t want to be lugging things between stages.

5. Kids: Womad is truly kid-friendly. There's always a good vibe and the kids' zone in what is typically Brooklands Zoo is an all-time hangout space - they'll even write your cellphone number on your child’s arm, so that if they do get lost a volunteer can call you. Having a home base/zone (small beach tent/blanket) with check-in times is a great way to let your (older) kids explore on their own too.

6. Eat and drink out: Not only does Womad bring the world's music to Brooklands Park, it brings its food too, so make the most of it. Try that paella or Hungarian fried bread and while you're at it, why not sip on one of the Womad beers, made specially for the event.

7. Get in early: If you want to be at the front of one of the smaller stages (Dell, Brooklands and Gables) then head there early to beat the rush of people moving from one stage to another. Ten to 15 minutes should do the trick.

8. Side shows: There's plenty of action outside of the main stages that can often be missed. So check out Taste the World, where bands cook a favourite dish for the crowd,

World of Words, where there's a poetry slam and comedian Tom Sainsbury performing, or a workshop with one of the artists at Te Paepae. There's also the Steam Lab, so get amongst.

9.Zero waste: Help Womad achieve its zero waste goals by bringing your own reusable items. Picnic food is welcome, but leave the pre-packed food in singleuse plastic at home. There are designated waste stations for rubbish, recycling and compost so please use them and make it easier on the event volunteers. An empty reusable water bottle can also be brought in and then filled around the site.
