Brookfields Lawyers is delighted to announce the appointment of a new Partner in their Rm/local Government Team for 2024

“We are pleased to welcome Lisa Wansbrough, who is based in New Plymouth, to the partnership. She has contributed significantly to the firm and will continue to do so as one of our Partners," Brookfields chair and partner Andrew Green said.

Lisa Wansbrough was admitted in 2007. She spent her early career as an employed barrister for Christopher and Michele Wilkinson-smith at Auckland Defence Chambers and City Chambers, where she appeared in criminal proceedings at a District Court through to a Court of Appeal level. Lisa then spent time working in the United Kingdom as a solicitor for the Secretary of State for the Home Department. In this role she was responsible for defending judicial review claims and appeals against the decisions of the UK Border Agency. On her return to New Zealand, Lisa worked for a large provincial firm, where she specialised in local government and resource management law. Lisa joined Brookfields in 2015, starting as senior solicitor, before progressing to senior associate and then special counsel.

Lisa advises clients throughout New Zealand on a range of public law matters, including consultation, decision-making and code of conduct matters, drafting, review and enforcement of bylaws, traffic and building law administration and enforcement, alcohol licensing, reserves, PWA and LGOIMA matters. Lisa authors the LGOIMA and Privacy Law and Reserves Act chapters of Thomson Reuters Local Government Law in New Zealand.

Lisa is also experienced in all aspects of the RMA, and regularly advises clients on a wide range of resource management matters, including queries related to resource consents, fast-track consenting, notices of requirement, Schedule 1 processes, implementation of national policy statements, enforcement matters and appellate and judicial review proceedings.
