Vinyl Re-Spin sale a crowd pleaser

- By LUKE KIRKEBY

COMPACT disc sales may be falling, but the same certainly can’t be said about the sale of vinyl records.

Taupo based professional photographer and vinyl record enthusiast Brian M Smith organised his first Re- Spin second-hand vinyl bi-monthly fair at The Art Lounge gallery in Heuheu St in March and is now preparing for his second on Saturday, May 30.

Smith said he was blown away by the positive response to the first fair.

‘‘We had about 70 people turn up and it was nice to see so many people walking away with a bunch of records under their arms,’’ he said.

‘‘One seller sold 700 records which was everything he had, and there was a really good atmosphere.’’

‘‘We had teenagers, males and females of all ages come and people were contacting us from as far away as Auckland and Wellington and we’re expecting even more this time,’’ he said.

He said there will be six sellers on the day and people were also welcome to bring their records along to trade in.

‘‘Some of the sellers will be the same, but we have got some new ones coming too which means more records,’’ he said.

Smith said the fair would be open from 10am till 2pm and if people wanted to simply get rid of their records he was more than happy to take them. Alternatively, if they wanted to be a seller for the July fair, he encouraged them to get in touch with him.

‘‘This time round it is going to be even more exciting because we will have a raffle where you could win a new copy of the Beatles’ Sergeant Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band,’’ he said.

Entry to the fair is $5 which includes a raffle ticket. For more information email respinvinyl@gmail.com.
