Sweet delight in store for cancer patients

-

PEOPLE with a sweet tooth can now enjoy an iconic sweet treat to make life a little sweeter for cancer patients in need of a pick-meup.

Until June 3, Bakers Delight bakeries, including Taupo’s in Spa Rd, will donate $1 from each Pink Bun sold to cancer charity Look Good Feel Better.

Look Good Feel Better provides a free service to people undergoing treatment for cancer through classes offering advice, support, and makeover sessions. Trained beauty volunteers help patients get their identity back, with ways to combat physical changes during and after gruelling treatment.

Bakers Delight bakeries are donating ‘‘Pink Buns’’ to Taupo Look Good Feel Better patients taking part in a workshop during the campaign.

Julie Whitinui said her entire Bakers Delight team was delighted to do everything it could to help women and teens in their community undergoing cancer treatment.

‘‘We are thrilled to work with a charity we know directly benefits our area and our people,’’ she said.

‘‘We’re helping people that are not only our customers but our mums, sisters and aunties.’’

Bakers Delight are sharing the stories of two Look Good Feel Bet- ter recipients Sarah and Kristie in the Taupo store, illustrating how buying Pink Buns means funds for Look Good Feel Better. All the proceeds will directly benefit workshops in communities throughout New Zealand.

General manager of Look Good Feel Better Clare O’Higgins said continued support from Bakers Delight was vital, as the charity receives no government funding and relies on corporate and public support. Since inception, Look Good Feel Better has helped more than 35,000 patients and this year will run an increased number of classes – 250 workshops in 31 regions, reaching more than 3200 women.

‘‘Bakers Delight has been supporting Look Good Feel Better since 2006 and we really appreciate the long-standing partnership we have with them,’’ O’Higgins said.
