TAUPO SWIMMING CLUB

Taupo Swimming Club hosted 270 swimmers for their annual XLR8 meet at the weekend. This meet is very popular as swimmers race for XLR8 points to win their age group, while also racing to make finals and win age group medals. Club travelled from the wider Bay of Plenty, Hamilton, Auckland and Wellington. We also had swimmers chasing New Zealand records which added to the atmosphere poolside. Taupo Swimming Club had a number of swimmers racing for XLR8 points, with four swimmers placing and winning cash prizes. Johnson, Thomas and Brianna have all just been named on the Taupo Junior Sports Scholarshi­p Team for 2016. Johnson Bishop – 1 st 15 year old boys. Brianna Green – 2 nd 15 year old girls. Thomas Bishop – 3 rd 14 year boys. Katelyn Flynn – 3 rd 11 year old girls. In the age group medals the following swimmers won medals. Johnson Bishop (15) – Gold 400 IM, 50/100/200 Breaststro­ke, 800 and 1500 Freestyle, Silver 100 Butterfly and Bronze 100 Backstroke. Brianna Green (15) – Gold 100 Backstroke, 100/200/800 Freestyle, Silver 50/200 Backstroke, Bronze 50 freestyle. Thomas Bishop (14) – Gold 50/100 Breaststro­ke and 100/200 IM and Silver 200 Backstroke. Seffie Figgins (14) – Silver 100/200 Freestyle, 200 Butterfly and 50 Backstroke, Bronze 400 Freestyle and 100 IM. Julia Onishi (14) – Silver 100/200 Backstroke. Toni Saunders (14) – Bronze 400 IM, 50 Freestyle and 100 Butterfly. Nathan Rowland – Gold 50/100 Breaststro­ke and Silver 200 Breaststro­ke. Karl Hooper (13) – Silver 50 Backstroke and 50 Butterfly, Bronze 100 Freestyle and 100 IM. Ivan Abele (13) – Bronze 50/200 Backstroke and 1500 Freestyle. Katelyn Flynn (11) – Silver 50 Freestyle. Ben Solomann (10) – Siler 50/100 Backstroke and Bronze 200 Backstroke. Cormac Liddell (9) – Gold 50 Freestyle and 50 Backstroke. Personal Best times were another feature of the weekend with a high rate of PBs swum by all the team. 100 % Personal Best times were achieved by Talia Figgins, Katelyn Flynn, Kellie Marie Kemp, Cormac Liddell, Nathan Rowland and Toni Saunders. The meet was a huge success for the club who have received many compliment­s for the way they host a meet. Swimmers are now training hard for the Greerton Winter Champs in July.
