Student’s design wins top award

-

A modern solution to an Art Deco architectural design challenge has proved rewarding for Taupo¯ student Blake Woodfield, who was named as the winner of the 2017 Tauhara College Coresteel Buildings Innovation Award.

As part of his Year 13 Design and Visual Communication classwork, Blake and his classmates were challenged to design a replacement house for one that had burnt down in Mangakino.

“Blake rose to the occasion and took the prerequisite of an Art Deco era theme, and created a modern design that pushed the boundaries of modern architecture,” says John Sullivan, design and visual communications teacher at Tauhara College.

In his five years at Tauhara College, Blake has developed his analytical and creative thinking skills through his involvement in the team responsible for production, lighting and electronics at school events and productions.

“Blake has shown a real talent for design and we hope his creativity will be encouraged by the Coresteel Buildings Innovation Award,” says Lee Parker-Frew, director, Coresteel Buildings Central Plateau.

Coresteel Buildings prides itself on being an innovative company which continues to push the boundaries in the advancement of steel technologies and software development. This is the second year the award has been presented at Tauhara College. The Coresteel Buildings Innovation Awards are a nationwide initiative.
