Hot Tub concert for Taupo¯
A concert that is sure to whet the appetite is promised when local funk/ soul/jazz ensemble Hot Tub plays at St Andrew’s Church on Saturday October 20.
The pre-dinner concert will feature nibbles and refreshments, so depending on your musical tastes, either way it’s a winner, says band leader Peter Marshall.
Doors open at 5.30pm for a light snack and drinks before the hour-long concert at 6pm which costs $10 for adults, and children $2.
Hot Tub’s approximately 14 members are drawn from a hard core of nearly, almost semi-professional players, filled out with genuine vagrant musicians.
Saturday’s concert will be a good opportunity to expose Taupo¯ audiences to a couple of new arrangements the band has played elsewhere, Peter says, but which haven’t been heard in Taupo¯ before.
“Well, not the way we play them.”
The band has established a reputation as a group which enjoys challenging, exciting material which, when it all comes together, can transcend description, he said.
It has played at jazz clubs, harvest festivals, exhibition openings and aid fundraisers — anywhere with concealed exits that an audience can be lured into with the promise of free drinks and nibbles.
Expect a repertoire of funk tinged with moments of soulful gospel and some notable rock and jazz numbers made all the more listenable with the inclusion of a blistering horn section.
