TAUPO¯ BOWLS REPORT

Top combination Ray Mayall (sk) and Jenny Mayall went through the first open tournament of the summer season at the Harcourts Taupo¯ Bowling Club unbeaten to earn the top prize last Sunday.

The pair finished the tournament with a draw, three wins and 26 winning ends from a near capacity field that included players from visiting clubs.

‘Big’ Bill McCallum and consistent lead Liz Witton with three wins and 33 winning ends took the second prize and another consistently good bowler Noel McCutcheon/Mike Wooldridge won third with three wins and 32 ends.

Ray Mayall has shown consistent early season form after also winning the regular Thursday club tournament when pairing up with Eleanor Usherwood to take out the 2x4x2 pairs unbeaten with 26 points.

Jack Giddy/Jan Hopkins produced one win and one loss to secure second prize with 19 points on a countback from Ray Spencer/ David Beck, while the best of the non-winners for third prize were Tony Corbett/ Vivienne Hutchison with a massive 17 points.

Liz Witton/Jenny Mayall won the drawn prize.

According to club captain Darrell Purdie his elite wrong bias group has reached a record membership with the names of recent admissions to be published shortly.
