Marotiri School celebrated its annual Ag Day recently in balmy summer weather under cloudless skies.

A huge turnout of children, parents, grandparents, the community and sponsors shared food, Young Farmers agri-skills activities, an imaginative array of “scarecrows” and show animals — lambs, dogs and other pets. As calves were judged on their home farms this year, they were not on show for public scrutiny.

Students had worked over many weeks creating their classroom exhibits in the form of 3D art, floral arrangements and creative examples of baking.

Sponsors provided a number of varied articles for auction which included an All Black’s jersey signed by Brodie Retallick, farm clothing, and fertiliser, which induced spirited bidding before raffles were drawn by Mayor David Trewavas.

Children and animals enjoyed Marotiri School’s Ag Day.
