Move give way sign

-

At one time I was in favour of traffic lights at Norman Smith St in the main to control uphill traffic on Wairakei Drive. But as Paul Henson points out, the cost is unbelievably high for a temporary solution. It occurs to me that there is another way. Take the give way sign out of Norman Smith St and put it on Wairakei Drive facing the uphill traffic. It would have a similar benefit to lights but would be self regulating according to traffic density. The sight line up Norman Smith from Wairakei Drive is good so it would be of little inconvenience to uphill traffic during slack times. The slip road seems to work quite well so there may be no need to have a give way to downhill traffic, one could be put in later if really needed. What would it take? An hour for a man with a spade and another with a paint brush. Cost, maybe $500 for labour and paint? It must be worth a trial at least.
