Bowls game abandoned

- — Bevan Choat

For the first time in months the Thursday 2x4x2 bowls pairs weekly competition was abandoned because of the weather at the Harcourts Taupo¯ Bowling Club.

Play during the week was restricted to club rollup sessions on Tuesday, Saturday and Sunday.

Games attract good numbers of local players and visitors and show increasing interest for the sport in Taupo¯.

With two well cared-for greens, one artificial and one natural, the club facilities are encouraging local members, and out of town and overseas visitors for tournaments and club activities.

Entries for club championships are increasing with the club championship pairs for men and for women scheduled for Saturday and Sunday November 17/18 and the singles for men and women on December 15/16.

A progressive pairs tournament sponsored by life members Bridie and Ray Spencer has also attracted a large field on Sunday November 11.

Round two of the threeway inter-club triples featuring Taupo¯, Tokoroa and Arawa (Rotorua) is due to be decided on November 26.
