First duathlon held

Taupo & Turangi Weekender - - News - — Pernille Fletcher

What a stunner it proved to be out at Craters Mountain Bike Park for TriSport Taupo¯’s first mountainbike duathlon of the season, held on Monday, November 5.

The long course mountain bike duathlon was taken out by Alex Brackenbury, Ben Raven and Logan Hammersley with Hannah Howell, Meredith Bowler and Katey Coubrough in the ladies.

Long course road bike was a new event heading up the steep hill to the Craters walkway. Nathan Toma, Corey Lecouteur, and Oliver Barnett fought hard for first, second and third spots while Helena Watts and Sue Mavor did justice to the ladies’ road bike duathlon.

It was great to see our youngsters trying out the kids’ duathlon (super short) with young Imogen and Taylor winning their races.

In the short course mountain bike duathlon Kasper Lenoir, Joseph Brown and Toby Bowler were on the podium with Sophie Webber, Kaea Gage and Melissa Johnson showing the top female times.

In the teams, the long course winners were team 723: T and S McMahon with team 707 KilmisterHammersley taking out the short course honours.

Next week, on November 12, our duathlon series take us to the Bruce McLaren Motorsport Park for short and long distances with 5.30pm registration. For more information check our Facebook and website.
