The season has started with exciting news for three Taupo¯ Cricket boys who have been selected for the 2018/19 Bay of Plenty Lakeland Primary Boys Cricket Team, to attend the Northern Districts Primary Schools Tournament in Hamilton at the end of November.

The Bay of Plenty Lakeland area includes Taupo¯, Rotorua and the Eastern Bay.

The trial process started two months ago when Taupo¯ Junior Cricket nominated 10 of their Primary School boys to attend three Bay of Plenty winter training sessions in Mount Maunganui.

Following the training, the squad was slimmed down to 16 for further trial games through October.

At the conclusion of the trial games the tournament team was announced and the three Taupo¯ boys selected are Ben Soloman, Lucas Neill and Tom Martin.

The Northern Districts Tournament includes two home games before heading to Hamilton to play the rest of the tournament over three days.

The games are:

Poverty Bay — November 11 in Whakata¯ne.

Hamilton — November 18 in Rotorua.

Counties — November 26

BOP Coastlands — November 27 and Northland November 28 in Hamilton.

The result of their first game against Poverty Bay was a great win to the BOP Lakeland boys by five wickets. Fielding first, they bowled out Poverty Bay for 93 runs with Soloman bowling three tidy overs and Neill doing a great job as wicket keeper.

Chasing 94 to win, Martin opened the batting and scored strongly all around the field.

Martin carried his bat through their innings and was not out on 43 (including 6 boundaries).

BOP Lakelands 98/3.
