College Boys notch up win

- Curtis Painter

I cannot say it enough, GM Painters Lake Taupo¯ Cricket Club playing College Old Boys is a matchup that always provides the goods.

The College Old Boys won the toss and following the likes of the Black Caps on a Pakistani pitch, elected to bat first. Their innings started off shaky and with Roger Urbahn collecting the early wicket of opener Simon Smith and the top three batsmen combining for less than 50 runs, LTCC was confident.

But, cricket is a funny old game, and the momentum can change. Shaun McGreevy and Simon Dufty were the men of the hour for College Old Boys, each notching up just over 40 runs apiece and helping their side set LTCC a respectable target of 154 to win. Paulie Davey got a 55-run total off 22 balls. Steve Howard put up 50 runs.

A small amount was left which Abhi ‘Rambo’ Gupta was able to collect with several swings of the bat in classic Rambo fashion. LTCC was able to reach the target with wickets up one sleeve and three overs up the other.

Meanwhile, GM Painters LTCC Premier have fallen in a tight tussle with Tauranga Boys College Premier.

Despite solid middle order runs from Malik (33), Louie Love-Parata (24) and Jack Wiggins (25) LTCC fell 40 runs short batting through to 145/9 off their 50 overs.

Scores: College Old Boys: S McGreevy 41, S Dufty 43, R Urbahn 2-26. LTCC Reserves: P Davey 55, S Howard 51, S Dufty 1-19.

Tauranga Boys College: C Williams 33, C Templar 29, H Malik 4-31, J Dolan 3-16. LTCC: H Malik 33, J Wiggins 25, L LoveParata 24, C Williams 3-26.

LTCC Premier take on tabletopping Greerton in Tauranga this weekend with the LTCC Reserves also away with two T20s in Rotorua.
