Good turnout for racing

-

On Monday November 12 there was an excellent turnout at the Bruce McLaren Motorsport Park, Broadlands Rd for the Tri Sport Taupo¯ duathlon.

Despite the hint of rain all day, the track started dry and was warmed up by junior duathletes Imogene Scurr and Lola Bradley during the kids duathlon at 5.45pm.

Then the games began, with grey clouds hovering and the long and short course heading off at pace around the track.

The long course (1.8km run/ 10km ride/1.8km run) was dominated by teen members and training mates Alex Brackenbury, Ben Raven and Ivan Abele with female athletes Sam Bradley, Kate Moore and Michelle Anne Mason taking top spots in the women’s race. Short course (1km/8.7km/ 1km) victors were Lily Raven, Sophie Webber and Helena Watts along with Marcel Abele, Austin Gibson and John Kuper.

Kelvin Martin and Kevin Raven won the long course team event with Marcel and Enya Abele first in the short course team event.

It really was wonderful to see new youngsters and adults alike out there and thanks to registration, timing and marshalling volunteers. Another night of excellent spot prizes from Top Gear cycles. Tune in next week for the next race — same time, same place, same low-cost, high-fun racing.
