Remedy needed

Taupo & Turangi Weekender - - News -

I read Graeme Chisholm’s letter in last week’s Weekender with interest but unfortunately his wish for lights at this intersection does nothing to solve the problem, lights do not ease the congestion by even one vehicle. He mentions the East Taupo¯ arterial bridge approaching its capacity, but it is not there yet and what is needed at our troublesome, and dangerous, intersection is a remedy now.

The only thing lights would do at this intersection is take decisions away from dithering drivers who cannot see their way clear to proceed down the merging lane.

Let’s have the northern traffic directed away on to the East Taupo¯ Arterial highway and so reduce the delays exiting Norman Smith St. No vehicles coming down the Control Gates Hill, thus a free flow for all the Norman Smith St traffic.
