Pi­anist to per­form in Taupo¯

One of New Zealand’s lead­ing con­cert pi­anists Lud­wig Tre­vi­ranus will present Fan­tasy: An ex­plo­ration of har­mony and nar­ra­tive through mu­sic at a recital at St An­drew’s Church on Sun­day De­cem­ber 9 at 2.30pm.

Lud­wig gained a Mas­ter’s de­gree in mu­sic at Auck­land Univer­sity, then a Doc­tor­ate at Florida State Univer­sity. He was suc­cess­ful in nu­mer­ous com­pe­ti­tions in the USA in­clud­ing the Beethoven In­ter­na­tional Pi­ano Sonata Com­pe­ti­tion in Mem­phis, Ten­nessee (2009), and the Florida State Mu­sic School Chopin Com­pe­ti­tion (2010). He has given recitals in the USA, Aus­tralia, Fiji, Tonga and New Zealand, and is in de­mand as a col­lab­o­ra­tive artist, en­sem­ble player, soloist and ad­ju­di­ca­tor, as well as for mas­ter classes.

In Welling­ton, Lud­wig taught pi­ano at the New Zealand School of Mu­sic, then from 2014 to 2017 was pi­anist in res­i­dence for Cham­ber Mu­sic Hutt Val­ley, giv­ing con­certs in the re­gion. He now teaches pi­ano at the Al­bany School of Mu­sic which is af­fil­i­ated with Auck­land Univer­sity.

Among many col­lab­o­ra­tive achieve­ments, Lud­wig recorded a dou­ble CD for the book Liv­ing Echoes: The First 150 Years of Mu­sic From New Zealand.

Lud­wig’s Taupo¯ con­cert will com­prise works by JS Bach, CPE Bach, Scri­abin and Liszt.
