The Taupo¯ & Tu¯rangi Weekender supports Te Taura Whiri i te Reo Ma¯ori, the Ma¯ori Language Commission’s campaign to increase New Zealanders’ te reo Ma¯ori vocabulary by running a different Ma¯ori word to learn each week.

This week’s word:

mahi(a) — to do, work, make

E haere ana au ki te mahi.

I am going to work.

- this is an example of an active sentence I mahi tahi ta¯tou katoa. We all worked together. — example of an active sentence Kua mahia te mahi pai e ko¯rua.

You two have done a good job. (The good work has been done by you two.)
