Get ready for the NY big bang!

Every New Year’s Eve numerous Taupo¯ locals and residents, adults and children, congregate on the lakefront in town to welcome in the New Year with music and free fireworks displays.

The two fireworks displays are funded by Taupo¯ District Council and run in association with Tu¯ wharetoa Ma¯ ori Trust Board.

This year’s Great Lake Taupo¯ Big Bang festivities run from 7.30pm and everyone is invited. On New Year’s Eve:

■ 7.30pm: Activities start at the Tongariro South Domain between the Lions Train and playground.

■ 8pm: Light sabre give away (numbers limited) and lolly scramble

■ 8.30pm Family movie — Minions

■ 10pm: Walk to lakefront

■ 10.15pm: Twilight Mini Bang fireworks for families

■ 10.30pm-11.55pm — Music on the lake front

■ 12am — Big Bang midnight fireworks

Please note alcohol is not allowed in the lakefront area and Tongariro South Domain.
