Taupo¯ racing festival great for wha¯nau

-

Heading to the horse races with friends and wha¯ nau has become a summer tradition here in Taupo¯ , says Racing Taupo¯ spokeswoman Marion Thompson.

The annual festival has grown in popularity year on year, establishing itself as a not-to-bemissed event on Taupo¯ ’s calendar.

This year’s Interislander Summer Festival Taupo¯ Races are held on Sunday, December 30, and promise an action-packed day of fun in the sun, making it the perfect family and friends day out that will keep everyone happy.

Eight exhilarating horse races are the main attraction, but there’s plenty more on offer, too. First up it’s free entry for children under 18 and there’s a free activities area for under 12s, with bouncy castles, face painting and sack racing. Goody bags will also be given out to the first 250 children through the gates, which open at 10am, says Marion.

Last year’s popular Harcourts’ Fashion in the Field catwalk competition returns with four best dressed categories for ladies, gents, teenagers and children (entries are taken up to the third race) and live music will play during the day. Food vendors will be on site to keep hunger pangs at bay and race goers can also bring their own picnics.

“Taupo¯ residents look forward to the Interislander Summer Festival every year and this year is no exception,” says Marion.
