Dark Sacred Night By Michael Connelly, Allen & Unwin, $29.99

.. .. .. .. .. .. ..

Michael Connelly doesn’t need to go off the reservation to keep me involved. In Dark Secret Night it’s easy to get locked in because Connelly is playing his trump card (no pun intended) with my favourite character Harry Bosch. Off course Bosch is supposedly retired but that doesn’t stop him poking his nose in where it’s not wanted.

Alongside Harry, night shift detective Renee Ballard returns after she catches him rifling through her old files. He’s on a mission to solve a long forgotten cold case, and after she escorts Harry from her office, he persuades her to help solve the murder of Daisy Clayton.

With their combined detecting power, in spite of the long time since the case was fresh, they start to make progress. On the way their own safety becomes an issue but somehow they survive.

It doesn’t take long for Michael Connelly to draw you in to his web, and that’s where you’ll stay until page 433 when everything is done and dusted. —
