The Narcs play at Taupo venue
Iconic Kiwi rock’n’roll band The Narcs are playing at Taupo¯ ’s Two Mile Bay Sailing Club tonight as part of their ‘Not Over’ Summer Tour.
The band had a slew of radio and video hits during the 1980s including (You Took Me) Heart and Soul, Diamonds on China, Lazy Susan, and Abandoned by Love. Their recording legacy includes three studio albums: The Great Divide (1984), The Narcs (1986) and Push the Boat Out (1996) plus a compilation, Best of The Narcs (2002). Over the band’s 39 year career, The Narcs have attracted new fans with their fusion of South Island and Sydneydrenched rock’n’roll.
With high-energy drummer Pete (Rooda) Warren of DD Smash on board, tonight’s concerts is being promised as a rocking tour of classic Kiwi music and a chance to hear some new tunes including the band’s latest single release Not Over, written and produced by Buzz Moller (Voom) and The Narcs. Not Over was inspired by a dream that Buzz had on the eve of a songwriting session with guitarist/singer Andy Dickson and bassist Tony Waine mid-way through 2018. The song name checks The Narcs’ 80s chartbuster (You Took Me) Heart & Soul and references an unfinished relationship and the need to rebuild, move forward and make things right again.
The band is playing in Auckland, Napier, Waihi Beach and Mt Maunganui as well as Taupo¯ . Torben Landl of the 2 Mile Bay Sailing Club says the venue is becoming increasingly popular with live music acts.
■ The Narcs play tonight from 6pm at the Two Mile Bay Sailing Club. Local artist Dan Sharp is the opening act. Tickets are available from Ticketfairy for $30 plus booking fee or $35 on the door.
