Pairs contest close

Taupo & Turangi Weekender - - News | Police - — Bevan Choat

The annual New Year optional and open pairs on the Harcourts Taupo¯ Bowling Club greens proved as popular and as close as in past years.

In fact the contest was so close that no team won all four matches and seven finished each with three wins and one with two wins and two drawn matches.

Because of the closeness of the contest the match room co-ordinators took time to closely scrutinise the outcome, honours in the end going to the popular Tu¯ rangi combination (now Taupo¯ members) of Joe Rowen and Rusty Petterson. Their three wins netted 67 points with the second prize going to Thomas Pope/Dot Pope 62 points, third going to top Bay of Plenty bowler Wendy Green/Marlene Jordan 61 points, fourth Peter Sarelius/Edith Hewett 50 points and fifth prize to the Te Awamutu pairing Sean Quinn/Linda Bennett 48 points.

Two other teams were three winners, while Urshula Croft/Allan Hodges notched two wins and two drawn games.

Almost 50 players including outside teams from Te Awamutu, Reporoa, Ngongotaha, Tokoroa, Whakatane, Arapuni and Waikanae entered the contest. Taupo¯ continues to be a popular venue for players.

Bowlers are reminded to carefully place bowls on the greens at all times.
