ADOPT ME

-

Our most precious gift to give is our time.

Operating the CARE Op Shop, caring for sick, orphaned and vulnerable animals takes a great deal of that, so the team at Community Animal Rescue and Education, known as CARE, is grateful for any you can spare.

The animal rescue in Taupo¯ tends to more than 500 animals a year, working through animal welfare situations, rescuing, rehabilitating and rehoming.

Due to increasing demand for its services CARE operations manager Helen Rabinska says CARE needs an additional 30 helpers.

There are two areas that people can get involved with. The CARE Rescue Cattery, above the CARE Op Shop, needs helpers. This involves feeding and tending to the cats waiting to be adopted. There is a morning or afternoon shift and it takes between one and two hours once a week.

If you can offer a safe and nurturing environment to an animal, the rescue also needs 20 additional foster families for kittens, puppies and dogs. All food, bedding and veterinary needs are paid for by the rescue.

“Fostering an animal is one of the most personally rewarding experiences in the world,” says Helen.

Visit the CARE Op Shop, 34 Nukuhau St, open daily from 10am to 4pm (3pm on Sundays), message the Facebook page, FB@CARECommunitynz, or call Helen 07 222 5776.

CARE is also looking for a feline manager and a canine manager. These involve managing the needs of animals in foster care, matching animals with foster families, and administration. Much of the work can be done from home but involves visits to CARE offices and foster homes at times.
