Writing in the Taupo¯ & Tu¯ rangi Weekender (November 21), Fred Beckers unfortunately seems to have little knowledge of what is required of a local body politician. He paints a very rosy picture of Kathy Guy and she may well make an excellent councillor but it is hard to see what benefit her experience in hospitality and accommodation will be in running our little city. What is of immense benefit is Christine Rankin’s knowledge of the workings of central government. There is no benefit in appointing a deputy just because they polled well. Our mayor chose well for his deputy and I believe the mayor is in a far better position to chose a deputy than an outside council onlooker.
