Writing in the Taupo¯ & Tu¯ rangi Weekender (November 21), Fred Beckers unfortunat­ely seems to have little knowledge of what is required of a local body politician. He paints a very rosy picture of Kathy Guy and she may well make an excellent councillor but it is hard to see what benefit her experience in hospitalit­y and accommodat­ion will be in running our little city. What is of immense benefit is Christine Rankin’s knowledge of the workings of central government. There is no benefit in appointing a deputy just because they polled well. Our mayor chose well for his deputy and I believe the mayor is in a far better position to chose a deputy than an outside council onlooker.
