Crime continues in parts of region

- Phil Edwards Senior Sergeant

Te¯na¯ koutou katoa. Following on from last week’s media brief we have continued to see our volume crime continue in the areas of Rifle Range Rd, Gillies Ave, Taharepa Rd and Tauhara Rd. There are further thefts from vehicles that are spread across our area south at Waitahanui to Nukuhau with nine vehicles broken into in the past seven days. We continue to see a rise in individuals trying to take motor vehicles, with nine reported stolen in the past seven days and a further four vehicles attempted to be taken.

We have had five burglaries in the past seven days and five commercial burglaries. We encourage people to remain vigilant and if they see anything suspicious to call Police on 111.

Police apprehended a 23-year-old male this week for burglary. A 111 call from a concerned resident after seeing this suspicious person led to a timely police response. Our investigation is continuing and we are positive that this individual will be responsible for some of our other volume crime. We believe there is more than one group of offenders operating in these areas and your help is greatly appreciated.

Police need your help reuniting this distinctive hoodie (pictured) with its owner. If you know who this belongs to please telephone police on 105.

A shout out to the organisers of the Waitangi Taupo¯ Moana Festival 2020 hosted by the team from Nukuhau Marae who ran an awesome day where we could celebrate our history and diversity. Taupo¯ Police had the privilege of attending and engaging with the public. I encourage people to put this in your diary for next year as it is a good family fun day out with good music, good food and good community activities.

Until next week look after each other, watch out for each other and if you need Police now, give us a call on 111 so that we can come and talk to you.

Nga¯ mihi, Senior Sergeant Phil Edwards.
