POLICE REPORT
Kia ora ta¯ tou. Things have been pretty quiet here in Tu¯ rangi over the last week in terms of thefts from cars and stolen cars, and we have had just one burglary reported.
Family harm is still an issue and we are working with local families offering them the right support.
School is back so we are working with our youth aid and truancy officer ensuring that kids are going to school, or they are all doing correspondence.
The biggest local issue for us at present is the continuing investigation into the series of suspicious fires. We are doing more patrols in that area, both by vehicle and on foot, and community constable Sergeant Vanessa Meharry has been visiting older people to provide advice and reassurance.
There have however been two positive outcomes from this heightened local awareness. One is that people are more aware of the importance of having working smoke alarms and removing any flammable materials around the outside. The other is it has brought our communities closer together. There’s been some awesome work done by Neighbourhood
Support setting up some new Neighbourhood Support co-ordinators who will be working with their neighbours to ensure they are all informed about what’s happening and know what to do. Having a strong Neighbourhood Support network enables us to work more strongly with our communities.
We know people are still concerned and we are around and will respond with urgency to any reports of suspicious behaviour.
Remember, see something, do something. If you have to look twice at something or someone you should be calling police on 111.
