-

Some top golf will be seen in Taupo¯ next week as the best women golfers from around New Zealand and Australia arrive at the Taupo¯ Golf Club.

The 2020 NZ Women’s Seniors Golf Championship, which tees off on the Centennial course at the golf club on Monday, February 17, has attracted one of its best fields, says Taupo¯ Golf women’s club captain Gail Searle.

The championships run until Thursday February 20 with 128 players competing who have travelled from all over New Zealand and Australia.

Gail says the calibre and number of the field is “a huge acknowledgement from NZ Golf and an indication of how highly the Taupo¯ Golf Club is regarded”.

Once the championships has finished, there is more top golf with the 2020 Senior Women’s Trans Tasman Challenge three days later, also on the Centennial course.

Six top players from New Zealand and Australia will contest the TransTasman Trophy on Sunday February 23 and Monday February 24.

This is the second time this challenge has been held. The two teams have foursomes from 8am and fourball from 12.30pm, followed by single matches from 8am on Monday.

The New Zealand team comprises Robyn Boniface (Captain), Robyn Pullar, Robyn Pellow, Diana Syer, Julie Gee and Brigit Holford. The The Australian team is Jacquie Morgan (Captain), Kim Burke, Helen Pascoe, Sue Wooster, Sharon Dawson and Carmen Palframan.

Gail says spectators for both competitions will be welcome with the chance to see some top-level golf, and encourage the New Zealand competitors.
