Mayor takes break for treatment
Taupo¯ district mayor David Trewavas is taking a short leave of absence, after treatment in Auckland.
In 2019, Mr Trewavas underwent a kidney transplant, with his wife as the donor. Specialists advised further treatment was recently required, following a routine health check.
Mr Trewavas will recuperate at home over the next three weeks but remains upbeat and looking forward to getting back to business to serve the community he loves.
“Thank you for all the well wishes. I am really looking forward to being home and getting back into the swing of things. There can, of course, be hiccups like these along the way and I am just very grateful to everyone around me for their continued love and support,” he said.
“I also want to acknowledge the health professionals on this journey with me — their skills and passion are second to none,” he said.
He said deputy mayor Christine Rankin, councillors, and the entire council team have helped to share the load, with Ms Rankin stepping in as acting mayor during his absence.
“The community is in great hands and I’m just really looking forward to returning to full health and continuing to serve this amazing district.”
Council chief executive Gareth Green wished Mr Trewavas a speedy recovery. “I know that I speak for the whole council, and wider community . . . We look forward to seeing him back here soon.”
