Wet week but rainfall still down on average

Wet! That was the best descriptio­n of the weather last week in Taupo¯ . Rain was recorded every day last week and this was most welcome after the drier conditions experience­d for much of the year.

Rainfall is however still below the normal for June, but there is still almost one-third of the month remaining. June and July are the two wettest and coldest months of the year in Taupo¯ .

All of last week was dark, gloomy and damp, but up until the last two days temperatur­es were quite mild and a quick glance at the accompanyi­ng data chart will bear this out.

Monday, June 14 topped 16.0 degrees during the day and there were no ground frosts recorded, but the rainfall was quite the feature with the 24 hour fall of 34.0mm on Saturday, June 19 into Sunday being the heaviest since Saturday, January 2.

Winds have continued to be light with no significan­t wind since a gust of 61km/h was recorded at Taupo¯

Barometric pressures fell from early last week and the low pressure system that moved onto the country at the weekend saw the pressure fall to as low as 1002 hpa last Sunday morning.
