NEW DISTRICT SAMPLING STATIONS
NEW WATER SAMPLING stations will be popping up across the district in the coming months.
The new stations will be located everywhere from Mangakino to Tūrangi and senior monitoring and compliance officer Nicola Hancock said they were being installed to help make water monitoring easier and more uniform.
“We carry out extensive water sampling from right across our district and up until now these samples have been taken from a variety of sources, including private homes, community halls, and the like,” she said.
“Gaining access to these sites was often time-consuming and while our sampling has always been rigorous and closely monitored, in addition to streamlining the process the new sampling stations will also provide a more uniform and accurate representation of our water network from right across our district.”
Ms Hancock said the sampling stations were often inconspicuous but would sometimes be found around reserves and were locked to make sure they would not be tampered with. There are nine installed and it is planned to have more than 20 in total.
