Our dull and damp winter

Spring should bring stable weather

- with Bevan Choat

With just a matter of a handful of days left of August weather 2022 and the 2022 winter, the final full week of the month has continued to follow the winter pattern of mostly dull and damp days. Statistics on our chart will reveal mostly mild days, for the time of the year, with some rain and little sunshine featured for the duration of this report. As for most of the winter, rain has been the stand out characteristic with just one rainless day last week.

Daytime maximum temperatures were about one degree warmer that the average for August, while night time minimum temperatures were more than three degrees above making the daily temperature just over two degrees warmer than the August average.

Barometric pressures were in general quite stable, although a frontal system late in the week saw a marked drop in pressure and with it an appreciable fall of rain. This is very clearly evident by referring to the attached statistics chart for the week.

Looking ahead, today heralds the start of the meteorological spring and the weather for the week should be somewhat more stable.

Next week’s report will feature the last few days of August and our usual monthly summary. It will also include a look back at the 2022 winter in Taupō .
