Taupō Vets

Forty veteran golfers took to Tauhara last Wednesday in cool, but fine conditions for a team event, with the best three stableford scores per hole to count.

The Senior Vets (in age) lead the way with John Mather and Malcolm Munro making an individual score each of 38 points, followed by Rob Gallien (37). Winning teams: A team: Malcolm Munro, John Mather, Tim Paterson, Brian Macken, 116 points; B team: Kevin Hughes, John Chapman, Warwick Prosser, Rob Gallien (115); Geoff’s Gang: Peter Coles, Pat White, Geoff Burton, Ted Swanney (112); Team: Tom Sainsbury, Hayden Baker, Dick Fraser, Bob Burns (111).

Best gross: Bob Burns, 80, which included a 2 on the 16th. Best Junior gross, Tony Rutledge (93). Longest putt on Hole No.8: Brian Macken; No. 11: Titch Snyman.

Twos were scored by Roy Menton, Les Wraight, Warwick Prosser on the 6th and Craig Greenwood and Tom Sainsbury on 16. Hidden Holes winners were Les Wraight, Malcolm Munro and Gordon Harvey. Top Dogs: Graham Woodcock and John Roberts beat Baxter Fagan and Dennis Tito. Senior Vets/9 Holers: David Mayne had a good round to score 19 points from Dermot Grainger. Mixed Vets Stableford Competitio­n The twice-a-year Men V Women competitio­n was played at Tauhara on Thursday — with a full field of 39 teeing off early to beat the rain.

It was hosted by the current champions — the Women, but the trophy now has a blue ball as the men regained the title. Taupō Men Vets compliment­ed the Taupō Women Vets for a well organised event and were pleased to record a win with 350 points from their top 10 players to the Women’s 333. Ali Flavell won outright with 39 points, also winning a great raffle plus the longest putt.

The men’s top 10 scores were John Mather, Les Wraight (37), Dick Fraser, Dennis Tito, Tony Rutledge (36); Tim Paterson (35); Baxter Fagan, Graham Woodcock (34); Malcolm Munro (33); Richard Shearer (32).

Women’s best scores after Ali were Jenny Cory (37), Anna Brabyn (36), Jackie Broughton, Adele Keene (33), Elaine Burchmore (32), Lynne Bowden, Carmel Hopkins, Lyn Edwards (31), Yvonne Raureti-Carson (30).

Closest to the pin were Les Wraight, Dick Fraser, Anna Reece and Lynne Bowden and longest putt prizes went to Ali and Dennis Tito.

Taupō Women

Tuesday saw 21 Ladies turn up for R5/5 of the Nett and Putting Competitio­n, plus Player of the Month, played on Centennial in fine conditions. Fran Svenson was first on Nett with 71, followed by Cheryl Hughes (72) and Jenny Cory (74).

Fran completed the double, winning the Putting competitio­n with 29, from Val Stone (30) and Jenny (31).

Anna Brabyn was Nearest the Pin on the 18th in the Silver Division, Carol Taylor was NTP on the 6th in Bronze 1 and Sheryl Painter NTP on the 3rd in Bronze 2. Andrea Watson sunk the Longest Putt was won by Andrea Watson.

Fran wrapped up a great day by winning Player of the Month.
