Promising outlook as new season starts
Prospects for the 2022/2023 lawn bowls season, which opens officially in Taupō this Saturday, look very promising. The stage is set for an actionpacked season of a sport that is drawing considerable interest and revival helped, not only by the recent televised Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, but also through the wide television coverage now being given to the sport.
Added to the promise of constant “on-green” action is the fact that the new and latest artificial green is due to be laid at the club later next month.
There was a good turnout of players during the winter play and the strong indication of prospective new members looks to also be a bonus.
A full programme for the official season opening day on Saturday at the club’s impressive facilities at its prime location on Ferry Road includes:
Brief addresses from Bowls Bay of Plenty executive and local board member Dave Jones, along with board chairman Peter Sarelius and life members Urshla Croft and Val Duncan will help get the season under way from 9.30am.
Progressive two and three-bowl triples and novelty events will form the “on-green” action.
One of the glamour events next month is the Great Lake Taupō Classic already having attracted top national players from Taupō and beyond.
