Club blooming with spring flower show
Biennial flower show to be held this Saturday
The Tūrangi Garden Club is delighted to be celebrating new beginnings as it holds its biennial Flower Show this Saturday. Entries for the show are open to any member of the community.
The judging takes place on Saturday morning and the show is open to the public from 11am to 3pm.
The mayor will present the trophies to the successful participants at 2.30pm.
Club president Cherry De Negri says, “We are delighted to be able to hold this event after Covid prevented the show from taking place in 2020.
“There are 46 categories for entering, and it is always amazing to see the quantity and quality of blooms grown in our area.
“The show is well supported from
visitors coming to view the flowers. There will be potted bulbs and lilies for sale, a huge raffle and refreshments.”
She says, “I think it is like new beginnings. People are loving working with nature and coming back out into the world and enjoying events like this. We live in an area that has an incredible, diverse range of growing, and this will showcase some of the spring flowers and fauna that are out there.”
Cherry says it is also important to celebrate and support events in
Tū rangi, to show what is possible in the community.
There is a $2 entry fee to the show. The Tū rangi Garden Club has more than 100 members and was established in 1988.
At the club’s monthly meetings there are speakers, a sales table, raffles, a question-and-answer session and a competition table.
The club has produced a beautifully presented recipe book with straightforward recipes for busy gardeners.
This will be available at the show for a cost of $15.
The main events of the club — garden rambles, a Labour weekend plant sale and the Spring Flower show — create funds that are donated to the community. Some club members grow vegetables for the food bank.
