Weather shows signs of warming up
Last week’s September weather in Taupō showed definite signs of warming up, especially over the last few days where temperatures during the daytime were as much as two or three degrees above the expected September temperatures, peaking at a mild 18.8 degrees celsius on September 23.
Night time air minimum temperatures also started an upward trend and the daily overall average temperature was milder.
The early part of the month continued the trend experienced throughout the entire winter with rainfall recorded on each of the first five days swelling the monthly total for September to well above the September monthly average.
Strangely, the September/October winds have remained light, but do not rule out a windy October ahead since September/October in Taupō are normally our windiest months of the years.
Until the last few days of last week, days have continued very cloudy and the sunshine hours have continued below the general average.
There were no frosts recorded last week. In fact there have been no significant frost readings since the morning of September 9 when the grass minimum reading was minus 2.5 degrees.
Last week’s report clearly outlined when frost forms and what time of the day is normally the coldest.
Next week’s report will include the usual full monthly summary.
