Holiday fun for kids in Taupō

-

There are plenty of things to do to help keep your school-age tamariki occupied over the school holidays. Taupō District Council is providing free craft bags and in-library activities at Taupō, Tūrangi and Mangakino.

The theme is “spring”, so spring into action because a limited number of bags full of fun crafts to make at home will be available each week, from each of the three libraries.

The first bags are available from October 3 and the second round from October 10. Unbelieve-a-Bubble

In other fun around town, the holidays start off with The Unbelieve-a-Bubble Science Show at Lake Taupō Rotary House on October 1.

Primary-age children are invited on a journey of questioning and discovery and to be amazed by the science that goes into making bubbles well.

Explore rubber bubbles, bubbles in a bubble or even see a bubble on fire.

The show is suitable for all ages and contains experiments that involve fire and loud noises.

For those who want to make their own bubble creations at home, bubble concentrate, a wand kit and other items are available for sale.

Safety is always paramount so ensure all children are accompanied by an adult.

Under 1 years free and general

admission is $8.50. Session times are 10am-11am, noon1pm and 2pm-3pm.

Confined

Confinement Taupō is sure to keep the kids entertained with its escape rooms, scavenger hunts and escape games these school holidays.

Confinement has four themed rooms with clues to help you work your way through each space.

It can accommodate groups of 2-8 per room.

Rapid escape

Remember Huka Falls Jet offers a 15 per cent discount to locals, so take the chance to see the Waikato River up close.

Further downstream, Rapids Jet offers a different

perspective and some exhilarating rapids.

There are also plenty of sights and sounds to be had for free on the various walks down the river, including the free hot pools at Spa Park, the two-hour return walk from Spa Park to Huka Falls and the Aratiatia Dam water release.

The Landing

Don’t forget the range of activities at The Landing Taupō — there is lots of bouncing fun and ten-pin bowling at Drop Zone, tasty treats and the new mini-golf course was due to open this week.

This is just a selection of what is on offer in Taupō these school holidays so be sure to get out and explore.
