Taupō Veterans

Due to a bad weather forecast the Central Motor Group Mid Winter Tournament ispostpone­d until October 19 and becomes the Mid Spring Tournament.

On September 21 the 8th round of the Len Murphy Trophy was held at Tauhara with 36 veteran golfers participat­ing.

The winner with 40 points was Mike Geisen. Runner-up with 38 points was Selwyn McLennan and Titch Snyman came third with 37 points and also had the best Junior Gross of 91.

On 36 points were Dennis Tito, Geoff Burton, Steven Anderson and Bob Burns who scored the best gross of 75.

On 35 points was Roger Menzies, Allan Lloyd, Dick Fraser , Brian Macken and Ted Swanney.

The longest putt was on Hole 2 by Allan Lloyd and on Hole 11by Malcolm Munro.

Two’s were on Hole 6 by Brian Macken, Bob Burns on Hole 16 and Richard Hoadley on Hole 17. The Bottle’O voucher was won by Rob Gallein.

Top dogs Les Wraight and Geoff Burton beat Neil Murley and Richard Hoadley.

Senior Vets/9 Holers included Dermot Grainger and Graeme Downs with a part round from David Mayne.

On October 5 is the first of our summer time starts at 9am for a Stableford on Tauhara sponsored by M21 Meats.

Vets 66th Annual 5-Day Tournament commences on October 31 and runs until November 4, involving both Tauhara and Centennial courses.

Saturday Women

September 17 saw the annual play off between Weekday Women and Weekenders in fair weather on Tauhara.

Twelve Saturday and 11 Tuesday players enjoyed each other’s company whilst competing for the Best Team Stableford shield donated by Madeline Beange, and a cup for the Best Individual Nett, donated by Pam Alexander. Saturday women were lucky enough to have high scorers Fran Svenson and Kim Chung among them so retained the shield with 34.9 average.

Fran won the cup with nett 66, with Kim runner-up.

Mary Watts and Val Stone got Nearest the Pins and Kim sank the Longest Putt.

On September 24, the stableford on Centennial was won by Fran Svenson on 40 with Jenny Vandenberg on 38. Fran also got two Nearest the Pin and Lesley Hosking sank the Longest Putt.

Taupō Women Veteran

With thanks to Taupo Property and Maintenanc­e, Pharmacy 81, Cafe´ Baku/Vine Eatery, Starlight Cinema, and Paetiki Discount Meats, 29 players competed in a stableford competitio­n off the terracotta tees on Tauhara golf course. Leading the race was Sally Mansell with 36, Val Stone and Colleen Tillson 35, Anna Brabyn 34 and seven equal on 33 — Adele Keene, Fran Fuller, Colleen Wade, Mary Watts, Lyn Edwards, Wynne Murdock and June Roberts.

For a gorgeously long putt Viv Wrathall won The Red Towel from Tremains Real Estate.

Val Stone (16) and Sally Mansell (17) were the closest to the pins. June Roberts and Anna Brabyn shared luck from the Pack of Cards. Anna Brabyn also continued her winning ways with the Mystery Hole card draw and went home with the Liquorland bubbles and, to boot, an eagle on Hole 9.

Next week is Grans’ Day.
