Tauhara College the Badminton Shield winner
Standard of play impresses organisers
It was good to be back for the 15th year of the annual Schools Badminton Shield, held in Tūrangi and facilitated by the Tū rangi Badminton Club, after a year missed due to Covid-19.
Congratulations go to winners Tauhara College. The shield was played in a round robin format with Taupō nui-a-Tia College and Tongariro School.
Taupō nui-a-Tia and Tauhara battled closely throughout the day with the boys and girls medals split by a mere three points, and an even number of wins going into the last discipline — the Mixed Doubles.
With a clear win each in the Mixed Double, the deciders were the two games played by Liam Young and Alana French against Samuel McKay and Nanami Ishikawa, and Harrison Eagle and Rylie French against Liam Moffat and Freya Moss. Both games went to Tauhara with only three points in them, which is a credit to the players.
Tongariro’s player of the day was Mystique Moanaroa.
It was a pleasure to see the standard of play by all the students.
Turangi Badminton Club would like to thank teachers Hayley Patena (Tongariro), Simon Farrow (Taupō nui-a-Tia) and Lesley (Tauhara), for
their help and support on the day. It was very much appreciated.
We would also like to give a big shout-out to the students from all three schools, who played a total of 48 games throughout the day, took
their turns at umpiring, and by their excellent behaviour and prompt change-over of games helped contributed to a successful day.
