Logging truck narrowly avoids house

A logging truck left a trail of debris, destroyed a garage and narrowly avoided hitting a house after crashing off State Highway 1 at Tauranga Taupo early on Wednesday morning.

The accident also caused extensive damage to powerpoles, a fence and a boat parked in the driveway of the property.

Police confirmed they received a report of the crash at 4.40am. The driver suffered minor injuries in the incident. None of the occupants of the house were injured.

The incident initially created long delays on the highway but traffic was moving again soon after emergency services arrived. The Lines Company staff attended to powerlines hanging after a concrete pole snapped.
