Settled weather forecast for Labour weekend

-

An intense and slow-moving area of high pressure and an embedded stationary upper-level trough dictated Taupō ’s weather last week.

The trough remained almost stationary over the central North Island and Taupō , the entire system bringing dull and overcast conditions, some rain and little wind.

At the time of this report, we are half-way through the month and there has been insignificant wind in what is one of Taupō ’s windiest months of the year.

The monthly rainfall exceeded the October average with 16 days of the month remaining.

All this can very clearly be seen on the attached weather data chart for last week.

The week was generally cold, the lack of sunshine helping this as the average daytime maximum temperature for the entire week at 14.2 degrees was more than three degrees Celsius below the October average.

The night time minimum at 7.1 degrees was almost one-degree warmer than normal, making the daily average temperature last week of 10.7 degrees, a shade over one degree warmer.

The current weather pattern is expected to remain much the same although the Labour weekend break promises milder conditions during a period of mainly settled weather.
