THUMBS UP

■ Thumbs up to the Taupō caldera for menacing the population with threats of extermination by pyroclastic density current. Taupō desperately seeks the boon that only a super-volcanic extinction event can provide. From which other providence can first home buyers seek to curtail the unrestrained engorgement of property prices, built off the backs of hard-working property speculators struggling to scratch out a living from the unforgiving tundra of tax-free capital gains? But spare a thought for the timepoor, non-local lakefront property owners who lack the talent to occupy their own house or allow anyone else to. Those fortunate enough to not own mansions will crowd the beaches under your floor to ceiling windows to get fron-row seats to the lahar of economic correction.

■ A big thank you to Craig and the team at Vetora Taupō Vet Clinic for Lucy’s surgery.

■ Thumbs up to the Tui on Tui Street. When new owners emerge, let’s hope they keep the Tui on Tui — an icon on the lakefront.

■ Thumbs up to Kristen at XOX Floral. She makes exceptional bouquets . . . with none of that terrible floral foam in sight! We have loved receiving your flowers Kristen.

■ Email your thumbs up/thumbs down to news@taupoturangiherald, message Taupō & Tūrangi Herald on Facebook or drop them into our office upstairs at 4 Starlight Arcade, Taupō . Thumbs up/ thumbs down may be edited or abridged. Personal attacks or thumbs down that refer to easily identifiable people, businesses or groups won’t be published.
