TOWNCENTRE TAUPŌ UPDATE

-

Over the last month the Towncentre Taupō team have been rolling out key events for our community. Labour Weekend saw 10 new locations transformed by some of New Zealand’s most talented artists with Graffiato: Taupō Street Art Festival. This is New Zealand’s longest running street art festival and has seen over 85 murals created. The town centre has become known for its artworks which serve a dual purpose of beautifying otherwise blank walls and counteracting unwanted tagging. It has also become a vehicle for local artists to make their mark on their town. This year saw locals, Tāne Lawless and Phil Somerville add their creative talents to the mix. Why not take a tour of the artworks yourself? Visit www. taupostreetart.co.nz for more info.

We were delighted to be able to organize a Halloween Trick or Treat Celebration after a two-year hiatus. This event allows kids to dress up and celebrate Halloween in a safe environment and local businesses to have some fun with their customers. Around 2,000 families enjoyed the festivities this year with 30 businesses distributing lollies, a fang-tastic feast from More FM, activities at Taupō Library and bouncy castles on Gascoigne St Reserve.

With Christmas around the corner, the community initiatives will continue with Santa making his annual visit to Taupō and a special social media promotion. Watch this space! As the yule-tide to do list starts clocking up, a reminder to shop local and support our small business owners where you can. If you love shopping online, think online local! Many of our local retailers have online stores. And with click and collect options right here in Taupō, you can skip the long wait for delivery service and be kind to the environment as well!
